ENGAGEMENT RING SETTINGS

Introduction to Engagement Ring Settings

Designers make choosing an engagement ring style easier by offering a wide variety. Since the setting is typically chosen first, it is considered one of the most important steps as it will set the tone for the rest of the ring. Keep in mind that the center stone is often purchased separately from the setting and that some settings can create an illusion of a larger stone. Beyond the center stone, the setting also decides what the accent stones will look like, with many using pronged, channel, or pave settings for them.

Solitaire Rings

Solitaire rings are a classic. The simplistic silhouette is well-loved by brides, so much so that they are the most popular setting chosen. Traditional solitaire rings focused on the center stone, with little to no embellishments on the band. Modern designers reinvent the style by adding hidden diamond accents, detailed metalwork, and cathedral settings to let the center stone shine even more. The metal choice is completely up to the bride. White and yellow gold are often chosen; however, platinum has risen in popularity thanks to its durability and brightness.

Side Stone Rings

The main characteristic of side stone rings is that there are accent stones placed across the band, naturally leading the eye to the center stone. Side stone rings can be as straightforward as having delicate stones placed along a simple shank, or they can be more elaborate. Vintage-style rings often use intricate metalwork and accent diamonds to create a visually stunning piece. More luxe engagement rings go heavy on the use of diamonds and sometimes having multiple rows of stones for maximum brilliance.

Halo Rings

Halo rings have seen a rise in popularity in recent years, and it is no wonder why. Brides that crave something truly luxurious will find their match in a halo style ring. The center stone is embraced by a ring of smaller diamonds to create an illusion of one huge diamond. Hidden halos are a relatively new design. The smaller accent stones sit below the center stone to elevate and add an amazing side profile that creates a blindingly dazzling display.

Three Stone Rings

Three stone rings hold a lot of sentimental value. The three stones that are the highlight of the band are said to represent the past, present, and future of a couple’s life together. The two side stones are slightly smaller than the center in traditional settings, but modern designers have mixed this up. Some designers instead use three brilliant stones of the same size, different cuts, or gemstones to highlight the personal intricacies that create a unique twist to a classic favorite.
